Published Mar 19, 2020The Friends reunion special is the latest entertainment production to be halted due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The HBO Max program has been in the works for months and was officially announced in February. According to Variety, it was slated to begin filming this week, but has now shut down until May at the earliest.
Stars of the series Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer all signed on for the special, which is slated to film on the original Friends soundstage in Burbank, CA.
The unscripted reunion was intended to launch HBO Max in May, as the new streaming service outbid Netflix for the rights to all 10 seasons of Friends.
It's unclear if the delay in filming will push back the launch of HBO Max or the availability of the original series on the platform.
None of the Friends castmates has commented on the production delay, but you can see how Cox and Perry are spending their self-imposed quarantines below.
